Establishment of Association

The Siltie’s and their Families Emergency Mutual Relief Association (SFEMRA) was established in the year 2000 as EDIR which is a community-based association to respond to the needs of a growing Ethiopian Siltie Community in the Washington DC and Metro Surrounding Area. SFEMRA is governed by the bylaw and legally registered with Non-Profit organization as the tax-exempt (501-c(3)) in 2009 with the objective of social service through participation and sustainable integrity and development. Over the past several years it has made significant contribution to the social benefits such as supporting one another in case of tragedies like death, mourning, accident and etc. likewise sharing joyful like celebrating wedding or graduation ceremony and etc. throughout our community. Having these kinds of social supports and services in our association led us to shape our future, integrity and of course to be closer, to know each other and supportive between our community members.

Name of Association

The name of our association shall be The Siltie’s and their Families Emergency Mutual Relief Association (SFEMRA).

Association Keystone and Our Belief

Our belief is not more or less as cited in the holy Qur’an. Our association foundation is also based only on this Qur’anic paragraph (sura).

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.”(Q 49:13)

Motto

The following phrase inscribed as a motto for our association.

“Holdfast unity and shape our future generation throughout our community.”
